Mood Boosting At Home Beauty Rituals

No matter what is happening in the world, it can be easy to forget how much we can do from the comfort of our own home.

Humanity as a whole are leaning into an at-home mindset right now with many of us in self isolation, working from home and generally opting to ‘stay in’.

Your first instinct may be to embrace the gloom, stress, inconvenience and uncertainty of your situation, but if we do our best to shift our perspective we may find the very many positives in our new-found excess of time and space.

Here are 5 of our favourite mood boosting at home beauty rituals to help take the edge off of your time spent indoors and give yourself some love and attention during this difficult time.

1. BRUSH THOSE CARES AWAY

Before showering try starting your day with some dry body brushing to energize the body, increase circulation, stimulate drainage from the lymphatic system, smooth skin's surface, sweep away flakes and dry patches, and even out lumps and bumps, including cellulite.

To dry-brush properly, first make sure your skin is completely dry. Starting at your ankles, move the brush over your skin in long, circular motions that go in the direction of your heart with a slight, firm pressure (try not to be too vigorous to avoid damaging your skin barrier and causing irritation). You can also add a body scrub to increase exfoliation and add some aromatherapy goodness to your body brushing ritual. You can dry-brush at any time of day, but we recommend right before you shower so you can rinse off everything you just brushed off.

2. SOAK UP + WIND DOWN

Once you’ve dry brushed you can rinse off in a quick shower or take this opportunity for a long, languid bath. Add your favourite body scrub, body oil or both to your bath and sink into the deeply soothing waters of aromatic essential oils and nutrient rich ingredients that will work to unwind any built-up tension as well as rehydrate and soothe your freshly scrubbed skin. Take this time to be still, meditate, listen to your favourite podcast or finally finish that book you’ve always wanted to read. You could even level up your at home spa bath even more with some candle light and relaxing music.

3. PUT A MASK ON IT

Masking is a pretty common self-care activity but now is the perfect time to take your masking to the extreme. Take advantage of your makeup free work days and replace the pore clogging foundation with your favourite face mask (this one’s ours). Just remember to wash it off before the zoom meeting!! 4. CARE FOR YOUR HAIR Haircare is often forgotten about but staying home all day means plenty of time to nourish those locks. Start by washing your hair using the ECOCOCO Shampoo and Conditioner. Then massage some of the ECOCOCO hydrating hair treatment into your towel dried hair starting from the ends working your way up to the scalp (you could even give yourself a scalp and temple massage while you’re at it). Then wrap your hair in a warm, damp towel and leave for as long as you’d like (at least 15-30mins) Then finally rinse out thoroughly in a warm shower. 5. MANI PEDI With nail salons closed the final beauty ritual you should definitely try to pamper yourself with at home is a manicure and pedicure. Start by soaking your hands for 2-3 minutes and your feet for 5 minutes in some warm water mixed with your favourite scrub or body oil. Then using a scrub or body polish (we recommend the polish for this step but either will work) gently scrub away the dead, dry skin cells (for your feet you could also use the exfoliating glove to protect your hands and for a more thorough exfoliation of the tougher skin). Then, soften your cuticles by massaging in more of the body oil so you can remove them using a cuticle pusher. Finish off with a hand and foot massage using body butter to moisturise and seal in the goodness.
